Scarisoara Cave

Nearby Cluj, in Gârda de Sus, there is Scarisoara Cave, a wonder of nature and one of the largest ice caves in the country. The cave is within Apuseni Mountains and the exact date when it was discovered remains unknown. Inside the cave you will encounter bats, small insects and lots of ice.

Union Square

Union Square is home to St. Michael's Church and the Banffy Palace, two of the city's most popular attractions. On the south side of the square, is a 1902 equestrian statue of the 15-th century ruler, Matei Corvin, and, on the southwest corner of the square stands Hotel Continental, built in 1895 in an eclectic style combining Renaissance, classical and baroque elements. Hintz House, with the Pharmacy Museum (two other popular attractions in the city), is just across the square.

St. Peter and Paul Church

This beautiful, Gothic church, built between 1844 and 1848, bears the names of apostles Peter and Paul. It is definitely worth visiting.

Fortress Hill (Dealul Cetatuia)

This is where you can get the best views of the city and the surrounding landscape. The name refers to an Austrian fortress built here in the 18-th century. Throughout its history, it also served occasionally as a prison. Stephan Ludwig Roth, the 1848 hero of the Transylvanian Saxons, was held here, accused of high treason and executed at the northern gate on May 11, 1849.

Cathedral of the Transfiguration (Catedrala Schimbarea la Fata)

Also known as Minority Church, the Cathedral is a historic architectural monument. It was risen between 1775-1779, in a baroc style, and, since 1924, serves as the cathedral of the cluj-Gherla Episcopy.

City National Museum of Art

The museum features sculptures, graphics, weapons, furniture, carpets, and paintings by famous Romanian artists such as Nicolae Grigorescu (1838-1907), Theodor Aman (1831-1891) and Theodor Pallady (1871-1956).

Emil Racovita Speleology Institute & Museum

Nr 5 Clinicilor Street

Here, you will find the fascinating collection of renowned Romanian biologist, Emila Racovita (1868-1947), who set up the Romanian Speleology Institute in 1920. You can admire some of his discoveries made in the country's spectacular caves, including various types of rocks, preserving traces of animals that died thousands of years ago.
